About the Artist…

Who I am

My name is Tania.  By day I am a Data Analyst Executive, by night (and on weekends) I am a wife of seven years, an extremely dedicated mother to my 11 month old daughter and hopefully your future friend and henna artist.  I was born in Bangladesh but raised here in Northern Virginia. I'm 26 years old, graduated with a degree of Interior Designing.

Henna came into my life at the age of 11 when I went back home for my aunt's wedding.  Getting henna done before your wedding is almost a ritual event.  Not only is the bride showered by henna patterns, but also her female friends and family members are embraced as well.  Surrounded by designs, colors and the festive atmosphere, I fell in love with the tradition.  It didn't take long for henna to become a passion and an obsession of mine.  I started to experiment and draw henna patterns every time I had a pen and paper.  Long classes and meetings started to become less boring...  My walls, books, binders, picture frames started to form henna patterns.  Next thing I know, I'm the official henna artist for all the friends and family gatherings, holiday events and parties.

How do I work?

Being professional and courteous is how I perform.  Not only am I easy to get along with, but with free consultations, I can talk with you, make you feel comfortable and work with what satisfies YOUR needs and desires.  One of my goals is to make sure that your experience with henna/mehendi is enjoyable, fun and unforgettable!

Henna Knowledge

What is Henna?

Simply said... It's a reddish dye made from the leaves of the Henna shrub. Used to dye the skin and hair.  In ancient times, (our mother's teen years) the leaves were crushed and mixed with various types of liquid to form a medium to thick-like paste.  Set for 16-18 hours aside then applied to hands and feet as body art.

How it all began...

Henna has been used to adorn young women bodies as part of social and holiday celebrations since the late Bronze Age in the eastern Mediterranean.  It was said that henna was used on women marking themselves with henna in preparation to meet their husbands.  (In short, their way of being exotic and flirty!)

Henna Today

Henna is commercially cultivated in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Morocco, Yemen, Iran, Afghanistan, Somalia, Sudan, Libya and Egypt.   Within the last decade Henna (also known as Mehendi) has become very popular throughout the world.  Try walking on the board walk without finding a henna store or a henna stand at the amusement park.  What used to be once a traditional and cultural form of festivities and amusement amongst the people of their origins is now a fad that's becoming more and more popular by the minute.
